What is the difference between a cupcake and a muffin?
Seriously, can anyone tell me?
You may argue that cupcakes usually have more icing, and muffins tend to have a little less sugar or fat.
But when you get down to it, essentially they are pretty much the same thing.
They both have the same shape and are based on the same set of basic ingredients.
They can be mixed and matched with similar accompanying ingredients like raisins, chocolate chips, blueberries or nuts.
From a chemistry perspective you would be hard pushed to distinguish between them.
So why is it that it perfectly acceptable to eat a muffin for breakfast but not a cupcake?
Now, you might be wondering why all this talk about muffins and cupcakes?
Well the reason is,
It is an excellent example of how our minds influence the way we experience the world.
Same ingredients, but different thoughts and perceptions
Which lead us to having different feelings and taking different actions.
Did you know that if you think of the exact same baked good as either a decadent cupcake or a ‘healthy’ muffin, your body will actually metabolise it differently?
Our brains are so powerful.
Your words, thoughts and beliefs actually shape your brain wiring and emotions.
And of course this doesn’t just pertain to muffins and cupcakes.
Everything we experience in the world is filtered through our thoughts and ideas
But most of the time we sail through our days, blithely unaware of how we are, in fact, creating our own reality.
We experience everything as the truth.
And while it might be your truth, it is a good thing to be aware that
This is only one subjective version of what is going on.
There are many more to choose from.
And everyone else has their very own version of the world.
So don’t get caught up with what is right or wrong, working or not working
Have compassion and understanding for yourself and others.
And know that a different experience is always available.
